Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remains a cornerstone of PC gaming, even two decades after its release. However, its age also brings a host of compatibility issues with modern operating systems. One of the most frustrating and cryptic errors players encounter is this: "GTA SA failed to open log file. Please ensure that the file ‘C:\Users[YourName]\Documents\GTA San Andreas User Files\logfile.txt’ is available and is not write-protected." You press "Start New Game" or "Load Game," and instead of heading to Grove Street, you are slapped with this error box. Your game crashes, your progress halts, and confusion sets in.

Right-click the "GTA San Andreas User Files" folder > Properties > Security tab.

Navigate to your GTA San Andreas installation folder. (Common paths: C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas or C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\GTA San Andreas )

Launch the game again. Solution 3: Disable OneDrive "Protect Your Documents" If you use Microsoft OneDrive, it automatically backs up your Documents folder. This changes the actual file path from C:\Users\Name\Documents to C:\Users\Name\OneDrive\Documents . GTA: SA does not understand OneDrive redirection.
