The storyline involves the Eng student trying to understand metaphor and the CW student pretending to understand calculus. Their relationship survives on the Eng student’s ability to fix the CW’s laptop and the CW student’s ability to write the Eng student’s emails. 3. The Delayed Guro vs. The Freshie This is a controversial but common arc. The senior who has been in UP for seven years (the iskolar ng bayan na nagtagal ) falls for the bright-eyed freshman during freshie week. The storyline is inherently imbalanced. It involves the senior saying, “Ako na bahala sa’yo” (I’ll take care of you), which translates to, “I will teach you how to petition a class and where to buy the cheapest siomai .” These often end when the freshie realizes the senior is still taking Math 17. The Rituals of UP Romance What makes UPD relationships distinct are the rituals. These are not dates you see in movies. They are hyper-local, extremely practical, and deeply sentimental.
The most iconic backdrop for any UPD romantic storyline is the 2.2-kilometer Academic Oval. Jogging at 5:00 PM is rarely about fitness; it is a choreographed opportunity. Romantic storylines here usually begin with a pace match—running beside a crush from the College of Engineering, or stopping to help someone with a flat bike tire.
